Data Analyst job description

The Data Analyst II supports the organization by working with the Corporate Impact & Analytics (CIA) team managers to ensure all technology tools available and analysis projects meet the needs of Goodwill staff, performance measurement, and reporting. This role reports directly to the Manager, Business Data Analysts and assists the manager in meeting the data visualization (DOMO) and data analysis needs of the organization.

The Data Analyst II's responsibilities are split between providing internal CIA Team support and providing direct support to Goodwill’s various program and education entities. The role supports and assists with the training of DOMO and other technology tools, manages tier I and tier II data analysis projects, and oversees and manages the use of secondary support systems, while ensuring quality control. The Data Analyst II manages various tasks or components of larger analysis and technology tool projects and communicates and coordinates with other team members as needed. The Data Analyst II fosters a close relationship across the entire CIA team and the power users across the organization.

Example Duties and Activities

  • Manages and provides both Tier I and Tier II data analysis support.
  • Assists CIA Team managers in comprehending and delivering analysis to external Goodwill clients.
  • Manages ongoing support and build-out of support software (such as DOMO, Caseworthy, and Synergy) on behalf of Goodwill program and education entities.
  • Responsible for delivering advance reporting and troubleshooting and, if necessary escalating, critical issues
  • Assists in the management of software, reporting, and analysis projects and ensures all deadlines are met.
  • Creates and manages quality control of support systems.
  • Works with CIA Team members and power users to identify, create, and support new content.
  • Assists with, and at times leads, providing training of support systems.
  • May be asked to support new initiatives, grants, or other projects necessary for the continued development and support of Goodwill and the people we serve.

  • Change Agent - Promotes, initiates, and enables change to happen within any group or organization. Supports a new way of doing something within the company by acting as a model of change through consulting, researching, and training. Has solid influencing skills that motivate others to listen, follow, and take action.
  • Communication Skills - Articulates thoughts and expresses ideas effectively using oral, written, visual, and non-verbal communication skills and listening skills to comprehend others' needs.
  • Technical Knowledge - Has solid working knowledge of G Suite and MS Office, especially Excel, and in using customer support systems (such as Salesforce, Blackboard, student or customer information systems, or data visualization tools).
  • Organizational Aptitude - Plans and attends to details and pursues quality in accomplishing multiple tasks in an organized and timely fashion. Exhibits careful attention to detail and follow-through with a focus on managing deadlines. Has a passion for accuracy.

  • Project Support - Manages multiple projects at once, is able to identify new projects, and has the ability to work both independently and in a group setting to identify and complete projects and to create or escalate potential projects. Demonstrates leadership skills, especially around problems, concerns, issues, and roadblocks.
