Data Analyst job description

The Data Analyst reports to the Portfolio Analytics Manager. This position is responsible for the development, maintenance, and design of critical reports based on business needs. As a data analyst, your reports and analyses will help drive Commercial Lines’ decisions. The role will focus on extracting and preparing data, driving improvements to the data and consistency across the organization, and creating self-serve and visualizations for key stakeholders to use.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively leverage data, analytics, and resources to support business objectives.
  • Create insightful reports and visualizations for departments such as Underwriting, Sales, Products, IT, etc.
  • Collaborate closely with core stakeholder departments (Underwriting, Sales, Actuarial, IT, etc.) to add strategic value through data insights.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on commercial lines data and reporting.
  • Translate business needs into reports to identify key metrics and track the performance of those key metrics.
  • Create or improve consistent approaches to data in areas such as portfolio pricing, underwriting strategies and distribution channel analysis.
  • Coordinate and co-develop new predictive and pricing models, post monitoring, and reporting.
Data Analyst job requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong analytic, data cleanup, and organization skills
  • Expert proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel for data analysis and presentation.
  • Skilled in SQL, SAS, VBA, Snowflake and other programming or data management programs.
  • Experience with data visualization platforms such as Sigma, Power BI, or equivalent.
  • Ability to translate data analysis into coherent presentations & communication.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data analytics, management information systems, business, statistics, math, a related field or comparable experience and education strongly preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in data management, organization, and analytics.
  • Experience with data cleanup, report creation, and analytics.
  • Experience with modeling and predictive analytics is a plus.
  • Property & Casualty insurance experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer, including video conferencing.

Hiring Range: $70,000 - $80,000*

Salary Range: $70.000 - $92,000
