Data Analyst job description

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for providing moderate level technical, analytical, and reporting support for the Claims, Provider, Finance, Enrollment, and Utilization Management departments programs and reporting needs. Manages assigned reporting projects to ensure that data and analysis requests are completed timely, accurately while presented in a way that meets the needs of the requesting department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Perform moderate level data analysis and reporting by conducting detailed exercise timely and accurate reporting techniques and/or develops new or modifies existing reports that ensure consistent results and analysis

Use analytical skills to determine solutions and resolve problems and automate when appropriate.

Work with requestors to determine needs and objectives, document and identify the correct methodology for extracting data including data sources and criteria, and ensuring the delivered report is accurate, timely, and formatted appropriately.

Manage assigned projects and effectively communicate with the requestor and leadership team any project roadblocks that may jeopardize deadlines in advance of due dates..

Responsible for understanding the various data sources available at Imperial.

Document all coding/analysis/reporting projects following established protocols to ensure transparency and repeatability.

Collaborates and maintains effective working relationships with management, internal departments, and external vendors.

Work with management to prioritize business and information needs.

Maintains regular and consistent attendance.

Adheres to Compliance Plan and HIPAA regulations.

Data Analyst job requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Public Health, Finance, Business, Economics, or related field required. In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree, 6 or more years of experience with reporting and analytics with data analysis, extraction, and manipulation in a healthcare setting utilizing SQL

Experience with SQL (TSQL, PostgresSQL, MySQL etc.) is a must

Prior experience using ETL tools (Informatica, dbt, fivetran etc.), Python, R, and BI visualization (PowerBI, Tableau, Looker etc.) tools a bonus

EZCAP experience preferred

3+ years of experience with SQL reporting and analytics with data analysis, extraction, and manipulation

3+ years designing reports and developing executive level presentations

3+ years experience in a healthcare delivery or healthcare business setting preferred

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY:

Must understand relational database concepts, table design and structure, joins, data normalization, and data types

Must be able to conduct detailed analysis and provide results

Thorough knowledge of MS Office Suite particularly Excel

Analytical and problem-solving skills

Must understand the technical issues associated with collecting data, analyzing data, and reporting.

They must be able to recognize trends and patterns

Willingness and ability to read, write, speak, understand English and have the communications skills necessary to provide accurate information to members and staff.

Willingness and ability to follow written and verbal direction in English.

Willingness and ability to maintain appropriate level of confidentiality and privacy.

Willingness and ability to interact professionally with all customers, members, and co-workers, individually and as part of a team.

Willingness and ability to effectively handle multiple items/tasks as required and adapt favorably to changing priorities.

Willingness and ability to make appropriate judgments, decisions and problem solving in a timely manner and within the context of the situation at hand.

Ability to effectively prioritize items/tasks as required.

Willingness and ability to take initiative and be a self-starter.

Willingness and ability to understand and comply with Federal, State, and local regulations.
