Data Analyst job description

The Healthcare Data Analyst I is responsible for providing reporting and analytical services to management and revenue cycle staff. The Data Analyst I will support departmental activities related to analyzing operational and financial data. They will collaborate with the staff to develop and maintain reporting and tools for measuring performance; perform basic and complex analyses to monitor health care quality, fiscal soundness, return on investment, support day to day operations and support compliance with regulatory reporting. The Data Analyst I will also promote data integrity by utilizing industry standards based measures, and the use of intuitive and easy-to-use self-service data warehouse reporting tools to increase the effectiveness of the staff.Pay range for this position is $59,236 - $70,793 per year, depending on experience.

Major Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains custom reports.
  • Reviews data to determine operational impacts and needed actions; elevates issues based on trends and/or areas for improvement needing increased oversight.
  • Models data using MS Excel, Access, SQL, and/or other data warehouse analytical tools.
  • Analyzes data to assist in delivering optimal healthcare management and decision making.
  • Designs, produces and interprets dashboards, charts and other presentation formats used for decision making and to track and improve data quality.
  • Maintain awareness of and familiarity with the organization’s services, information, documentation and reporting issues and requirements.
  • Serves on workgroups with both internal and external parties as needed.
  • With minimal direction, identifies data sources and approaches to be used in simple and complex queries.
  • Assist peers in defining and standardizing clinical performance metrics across the system.
  • Researches and ensures appropriate internal and external benchmarks are used for performance comparisons, such as MGMA and other benchmarking organizations.
  • Conducts statistical inference analysis and testing to develop & evaluate data driven hypotheses and results, including analysis for leadership team to identify critical issues/questions around clinical improvements related to value based imperatives.
  • Analyzes data using descriptive and inferential statistics to create analyses, dashboards, scorecards, graphs, tables, and reports that define opportunities for improvement and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Provides MIPS required reporting by specified deadlines.
  • Provides data and analysis to ensure physician compensation models are accurate and timely.
  • Participates in initiatives and projects.
  • Facilitates education of staff at all levels of the practice plan regarding performance metrics, indicator definitions, benchmarks, and other data-related information.
  • Obtains and maintains necessary training and certifications on clinical and decision support systems in use to ensure application and report writing super-user and data mining expertise.
  • Assist in publishing and distributing to leadership executive summaries related to data findings.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to self-improvement by actively developing the Leadership, Professional and Technical competencies assigned.
  • Design and maintain Power-Bi dashboards.
  • Functions effectively in a Matrix Management environment.
  • Completes any duties and special assignments as requested.
Data Analyst job requirements

Experience, Education, And Certifications

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in Healthcare Reporting, Data Analytics, and/or related field required
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, and/or Finance preferred

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Qualifications

  • Intermediate knowledge and experience with healthcare software systems, preferably Epic
  • Working knowledge of programming languages such as SQL, JavaScript, HTML, etc. is desired
  • Working knowledge of data visualization tools such as Power Bi, Tableau, etc. is desired
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, etc.)
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize work in a fast paced environment
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality
  • Must be able to pay close attention to details

Physical Requirements

  • May include standing, sitting, and/or walking for extended periods
  • May include performing repetitive tasks
  • May include working on a special schedule (i.e. evenings and weekends with clients)
  • May include working with challenging patients and clients
  • May include lifting up to 25 pounds.
