Data Analyst job description

Mediavine is seeking a Data Analyst II to join our Engineering team. We are looking for someone who enjoys solving interesting problems and wants to work with a small team of talented engineers on a product used by thousands of publishers.

Mediavine's Data & Analytics team is responsible for building the most effective platform and tools to help uncover opportunities in order to make informed decisions. We partner with nearly every other team in the company to help them understand behavior and performance, develop accurate predictors and build solutions that provide the best internal and external experience possible.

As a more experienced member of the team, the person in this position will bring their expertise in supporting the business by helping to guide direction through data based decisions. The Data & Analytics team consists of data analysts, data engineers and analytics engineers. This position will work closely with other team members and outside stakeholders to deliver tools and insights to move the business forward.

This position will be focused on our Revenue team that consists of Sales, Ad Operations and Ad Tech product professionals. The needs of these teams are heavily focused on the ad tech industry, its players and leveraging and increasing our competitive advantages in the space.

Our current analytics toolkit consists of DOMO and dbt running on top of a Snowflake data warehouse. We are open to new tools and expect this position to play a major role in setting the direction we take.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the ad operations, sales and overall revenue teams to develop analytic monitoring and measurement tools that meet immediate needs
  • Develop self service tools that allow internal users to answer the next question beyond the initial ask
  • Inform the analytics roadmap, which includes leading projects through all phases
  • Increase our teams' ability and comfort level in answering questions through mentorship, training, and better tooling
  • Create visualizations to monitor business performance and uncover interesting trends for investigation
  • Communicate requirements to the data engineers to ensure the platform can support the business needs
  • Contribute to anomaly investigation helping other teams identify root cause and present findings
  • Define and create exception based alerting that is meaningful for specific audiences along with investigation and remediation steps
  • Expand the Test and Learn process we use for exploratory data analysis and A/B testing, this includes helping stakeholders decide on testing strategy, generating baselines, approximating sample sizes and performing analysis of test results
  • Work with data and analytics engineers to standardize transformation logic in the dbt layer for consistency and ease of exploration by end users
  • Follow data analysis code best practices and analysis standards
  • As business needs change, be flexible in learning and applying your skills and experience working with other stakeholders
Data Analyst job requirements

Location:

  • Applicants must be based in the United States

You have:

  • 4+ years of experience in a data analyst role working at scale
  • 4+ years of hands on experience working with SQL (CTEs, window functions, optimization)
  • 2+ years of professional analytics experience working in the Ad Tech industry with an understanding of Google Ad Manager, SSPs, DSPs, Open vs Private Market
  • Experience with one or more major BI tools (Domo*, Tableau, Looker, PowerBI, etc.)
  • Comfortable working with multi-TB cloud data warehouses (Snowflake*, Big Query, Redshift)
  • Experience with web analysis such as creating product funnels, user behavior, and paths
  • Experience with designing and analyzing experiments including but not limited to A/B testing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working on a distributed/remote team
  • Preferred technology
  • Ability to travel up to approx 15%

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with R or Python for creating data models or data manipulation
  • Experience with dbt and Snowflake
  • The ability to make your teammates laugh (it wouldn't hurt if you were fun to work with is what I'm saying)
  • Familiarity with event tracking systems (NewRelic, Snowplow, etc)
