Using an open science, multi-scale, team-oriented approach, the Allen Institute focuses on accelerating foundational research, developing standards and models, and cultivating new ideas to make a broad, transformational impact on science.
The mission of the Allen Institute for Brain Science is to accelerate the understanding of how the human brain works in health and disease. Using a big science approach, we generate useful public resources, drive technological and analytical advances, and discover fundamental brain properties through integration of experiments, modeling, and theory.
Job Description & Responsibilities
We seek an individual to work with interdisciplinary teams of experimental and computational scientists to manage processing of taxonomies and Patch-seq data sets, including (1) using existing and new computational methods to map Patch-seq cells to transcriptomic taxonomies, (2) develop and support applications for visualizing these results, and (3) support cross-team communication and taxonomy management, which could include creating and tracking brain region-specific taxonomies built from comprehensive existing taxonomies.
The Allen Institute believes that team science significantly benefits from the participation of diverse voices, experiences, and backgrounds. High-quality science can only be produced when it includes different perspectives. We are committed to increasing diversity across every team and encourage people from all backgrounds to apply for this role.
Essential Functions
- Process Patch-seq data with computational algorithms to map them to transcriptomic taxonomies
- Develop and support interactive visualization tools to enable cross-team communication and analyses of the mapping of Patch-seq data to transcriptomic taxonomies
- Manage, validate, and support the use of new transcriptomic taxonomies as they are developed by scientific teams
- Create brain region-specific taxonomies from comprehensive existing taxonomies for Patch-seq data mapping and other analyses
- Create new visualization tools to display multiple modalities of Patch-seq data (e.g., transcriptomic, electrophysiological, morphological, spatial location)
- Develop new dashboards or systems to monitor the status of Patch-seq data sets to enable rapid feedback and iteration of experiments and analyses
- Participate in a highly interactive and multidisciplinary environment
Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions; it does not proscribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.
