Job Description & Responsibilities
You are an experienced analyst who is energized by supporting the development of an analytics driven product pipeline for a large and dynamic natural resource-based organization. You have a high attention to detail but are good at seeing the big picture and aren’t afraid to think outside the box. You are effective at communicating timely and relevant information to business customers. You are passionate about the sustainable role of forests, by acquiring in-depth understanding achieved through supporting and participating in advanced large-scale analysis.
We are a fast-moving team who is responsible for using evidence-based analytics to assess existing strategies, evaluate risks and opportunities, recommend revised or new strategies, evaluate competing business priorities, and provide recommendations on strategic direction to Weyerhaeuser’s Corporate Development Leadership team.
In this role, you will provide analytical support for the company’s best-in-class portfolio analytics technology platform that leverages earth observation data together with geo-spatial biological and physical data, business data, and market information to develop strategic planning tools and recommendations. The successful candidate must have experience compiling, cleaning, sampling and testing large data sets.
This role will be part of the Portfolio Analytics team and will be based in Seattle, WA.
Geospatial Data Analyst Responsibilities
- Support data science efforts in a fast-paced team environment to accelerate our efforts of building out our analytics driven product pipeline.
- Support the data scientist(s) by sourcing, compiling, and integrating different data sources to ensure consistency and compatibility for analysis, while also handling data cleaning, preprocessing, sampling, and conducting testing and validation using statistical analysis methods, particularly Python.
- Assist the data scientist(s) in the design and execution of algorithms for domain-specific tasks .
- Assist in the development or customization of tools, scripts, or software to automate and optimize data processing and analysis tasks.
- Translate existing tools and workflows into reusable Python scripts.
- Build cross-functional relationships to collaboratively partner within our business, data science team and IT.
- Proactively identify ways to improve data reliability, efficiency, and quality.
- Support the development of communicative and impactful reports on model inputs, model outputs, business impact and key performance indicators.
- Document processes, methodologies, and findings to ensure reproducibility and clarity for other team members.
- Support large geospatial dataset collection, including QA/QC and format standardization.
- Follow standard Weyerhaeuser best practices in managing geospatial data and source code.
- Support the development and presentation of compelling, validated stories to all levels of our organization, including peers, senior management, and internal customers, that communicate the value of earth observation (EO) analytics to drive strategic business initiatives.

Requirements
Experience: We place an emphasis on what prior experience our candidates bring to the table. This role typically requires a minimum of 3-4 years of prior experience working with large geo-temporal data sets, including EO imagery (Landsat, Sentinel, aerial photos).
Education: You have a bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field with a quantitative emphasis such as Computer Science, Statistics, Resource Economics, Business, Biology, Geospatial data science, or Forestry.Master’s degree preferred.
Skills: To be successful in this role, you understand machine learning concepts and possess strong communication skills with the ability to excite business leaders on the utility of these analytic tools for strategic business decision making.You are a passionate and creative problem solver and are coachable and committed to expanding knowledge and skills.
Technical Requirements: We need an individual who has a strong working knowledge inMicrosoft office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI), as well as proficiency in programming environment and languages, specifically Python and R.You’ll need knowledge of analytic and visualization packages available for those languages. You’ll need GIS skills (e.g., ArcGIS). You’ll also need experience with data structures such as Numpy, Pandas and Geopandas, and familiarity utilizing open-source Python analytic libraries such as: SciKit Learn, SciPy. You’ll need cloud computing experience, preferably in the AWS environment.

Our Investment in You: What We Offer
Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $86,742 to 130,250 based on your level of skills, qualifications, and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 7% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with paid vacation for up to 3 weeks to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 hours along with paid parental leave for all full-time employees.
