Data Analyst, Labor Planning job description

Job Description:

As a Labor Planning & Analytics Consultant, you’ll play a key role in shaping Southwest’s labor negotiation strategy by turning complex data into clear, actionable insights. You’ll analyze labor contracts, benchmark industry pay scales, and assess competitive practices across airlines to inform negotiation proposals and long‑term labor planning. Partnering closely with Labor Relations and cross‑functional Teams, you’ll build analytical models, evaluate cost impacts, and synthesize findings into compelling presentations that support decision‑making at all levels of Leadership. With a strong understanding of the airline industry and labor landscape, you’ll help ensure Southwest enters negotiations with the insights, strategy, and confidence needed to achieve balanced, sustainable outcomes.

Responsibilities

Complete analysis related to labor contracts and their corresponding costs

Ensure accurate results of analysis performed

Perform analysis related to industry and competitive research, labor contract benchmarking, and contract and compensation comparisons

Collaborate to ensure alignment with colleagues within Labor Relations and between other Company departments

Synthesize and communicate cogent insights from analysis performed

Maintain ongoing knowledge of industry trends and practices of competitors; track the changing landscape of other airline labor contracts

Develop and deliver structured presentations that inform and influence audiences using insights and illustrations derived from analysis

Construct and manage complex analytical models

Prepare customized briefings to all levels of Leadership

May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to engage and learn about complex and material business issues

Ability to drive complex analysis to completion

Ability to be a self-starter and work with a minimum amount of supervision to accomplish assignments and projects

Ability to understand industry events and potential impact on Company and specific departments

Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work under tight time constraints to accomplish assignments

Possess strong verbal and written communication skills

Ability to gather facts, conduct analysis, and translate data into meaningful insights through strong problem solving skills

Ability to understand financial statements and corporate financial metrics

Ability to contribute positively to a Team environment that promotes sharing, collaboration, and accountability

Demonstrates flexibility to adapt to a dynamic environment

Ability to present findings and defend analysis with department Leadership and with Unions at the negotiating table

Education

Required: High School Diploma or GED

Required: Bachelors Degree

Experience
Advanced-level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in:

Economic and financial analysis

Business, finance, or strategy

Preferred: Experience working in airline finance or air operations analytics

Preferred: Ability to develop, present and effectively communicate ideas and strategies to a variety of audiences

Preferred: Experience supporting labor strategy, workforce planning, or unionized environments.

Preferred: Previous consulting/advisory experience
