Job Description & Responsibilities
Description
The Data Governance Analyst is primarily responsible for assisting the data governance office in identifying and tracking UPMC information assets wherever they are located to ensure appropriate ownership, security, management, and valid authorization for use. The Data Governance Analyst manages the creation, deployment, and maturity of data governance processes and technology including data security posture management, data loss prevention, data risk management, data transfer documentation and approval processes. metadata cataloging and documentation, and other data stewardship and governance processes in relation to the Information Assurance Services department goals. Under the general direction of the management team and senior staff, this intermediate level position provides experienced analytical and/or technical capabilities, defining requirements, developing and/or maintaining computer applications/systems, and providing services to meet client IT and business needs.
Responsibilities:
Assign appropriate ownership and oversight to UPMC data by working with UPMC’s data governance community including senior IT leadership, information owners, data stewards, and application stewards to ensure that UPMC data is of high quality, fully understood, and accurately documented.
Ensure that timely and appropriate decisions are made with respect to the use and transfer of UPMC data.
Utilize data security posture management solutions to monitor and secure UPMC data through data loss prevention, insider risk management, communication compliance, and other security and compliance tools.
Utilize data catalog solutions to document UPMC data assets, catalog metadata, promote data literacy, and track sensitive data elements across the organization.
Functionally integrate with other disciplines including, but not limited to information security, privacy, audit, and other enterprise IT departments to reduce redundancy and improve UPMC’s understanding and control over its data and its supporting information technology.
Research, define, and provide oversight for governance and proper data management practices across the company to ensure that UPMC data is used in a manner that fully complies with relevant statutes and regulations.
Ensure that appropriate controls are maintained throughout the data lifecycle regardless of where the UPMC data is located, sent, and stored.
Requirements
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree in Business, MIS, IT, or related field and two years of Data Analysis / Data Management or related experience.
· OR High School Diploma/Equivalent and six years of Data Analysis/Management or related experience.
· Healthcare knowledge preferred
· Familiarity with data governance, data quality, data management and data analysis methodologies and practices
· Familiarity with requirements writing and design documentation.
· Familiarity with data warehousing, data modeling, SQL, and business intelligence environments and reporting tools.
· Familiarity with change and incident management.
· Familiarity with gathering and documenting requirements for data-related projects.
· Must have strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with people at all levels of the organization.
· Completes on-going training on-the-job, through courses, self-study, certifications and/or advanced degrees to maintain and enhance technical and business capabilities.
· Demonstrates thorough understanding of the fundamental tools and concepts of one of the information technology professional disciplines (i.e., Applications, Business Analysis, Customer Service, Data, Networking, Operations, Security, Systems Engineering, etc.) and applies that understanding to make independent practical contributions to IT work within a particular UPMC department or function.
