Energy Market Analyst, Equity Research job description

We are looking for a disciplined, detail-oriented analyst who thrives on independent work and critical thinking. This role requires both technical depth and creative problem-solving to navigate complex systems and abstract concepts. Success depends on the ability to balance speed and precision – knowing when to move fast and when to ensure accuracy, even in challenging situations.

Role Responsibilities:

· Translate fundamental drivers into company outcomes (revenue/EBITDA sensitivity, throughput/tariff impacts, commodity exposure)

· Support forecast methodologies (price hubs, volumes, spreads) and scenario analysis frameworks

· Partner with senior analysts to refine company-level views that support research, product, and client needs

· Build and maintain clean workflows for data ingestion, transformation, and QA

· Create repeatable analysis tools and dashboards; automate recurring processes

· Develop high-quality, client-ready visualizations that simplify complex systems

· Communicate technical and non-technical insights to internal stakeholders and external clients

· Support senior analysts in product development, maintenance, and client-facing analysis

· Contribute to documentation and internal “institutional knowledge” so work scales across the team

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s Degree required: Technical/quantitative fields strongly preferred (Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics/Finance, Geology, Engineering or related)

· Demonstrated analytical ability through coursework, academic projects, internships, or research experience

· Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail, with the ability to break down complex problems into tactical actions

· Strong ownership mentality: able to work in ambiguous situations and propose solutions

· Ability to learn quickly, prioritize, and adapt to new assignments in a fast-paced environment

Advanced skill set requirement (must have one of the below):

· Proficiency in MS Excel (financial modeling, dynamic formulas, pivots, VBA) and working SQL exposure

· Proficiency in Python and SQL (pandas/NumPy for analysis; SQL joins, aggregations, ETL patterns)

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

· Master’s of Science in Economics/Finance, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Geology, Engineering, or related field

· Demonstrated ability to work with large datasets, automate repetitive workflows, and build clean, reliable systems.

· Experience presenting analytical findings clearly in academic, research, or professional settings

· Experience or familiarity with natural gas markets, analytics, or trading

· Strong proficiency in MS Excel (financial modeling, dynamic formulas, pivots, VBA, Power Query)

· Proficiency in Python and SQL (pandas, NumPy for analysis; SQL joins, aggregations, ETL patterns), demonstrated through academic, research, or project-based experience

· Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Plotly, Tableau)

· Familiarity with FERC, DOE regulations

· Experience with Machine Learning methodology

· Experience in client-facing roles
