Business Analyst, HR Data job description

General/Position Summary

The Business Analyst - HR Data & Data Warehouse plays a key role in supporting Vertex’s HR Data Strategy by translating business needs into data and systems requirements. This role will support the design, build, and validation of HR data/metrics within the enterprise data warehouse, ensuring alignment with HR data governance standards. The analyst will collaborate cross functionally to enhance data quality, improve data management processes, and enable analytics that advance functionally-functionally to enhance data quality, improve data management processes, and enable analytics that advance organizational goals.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Partner with HR, IT, and Data Engineering teams to gather, analyze, and document business requirements for HR data in the enterprise data warehouse.

• Perform detailed process analysis to understand current state data flows and define state data flows and define future-state data flows and define futurestate-state processes aligned with HR data governance.

• Translate business requirements into technical specifications for data modeling, ETL design, and data validation activities.

• Support Snowflake based-based data warehouse development by writing SQL queries for data exploration, profiling, validation, and testing.

• Conduct data quality assessments, develop validation rules, and facilitate issue resolution to ensure accuracy and integrity of HR data.

• Collaborate with HR Data Governance leads to operationalize data standards, definitions, and controls within the data warehouse environment.

• Document processes, data mapping, and functional specifications to ensure clarity, transparency, and long-term-term maintainability.

• Assist in evaluating and integrating data cataloging and metadata management tools to enhance data discoverability and governance.

• Provide analytical support to HR and business partners, enabling data driven-driven insights through validated and trusted datasets.

Business Analyst, HR Data job requirements

Required Education Level
• Bachelor’s degree in business, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Human Resources, or related discipline.

Required Experience
• Requires 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or Data Analyst (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Experience working with HR systems, HR data models, or enterprise data platforms is strongly preferred.
• Prior experience supporting data warehouse, data governance, or metadata initiatives is highly desirable.

Required Knowledge & Skills
• Strong business analysis and process analysis skills.
• Proficiency in SQL and experience working in Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouse platforms.
• Experience performing data validation, data profiling, and root cause analysis for data quality issues.
• Ability to translate complex business needs into structured requirements, user stories, and documentation.
• Hands-on experience in reporting and visualization tools like PowerBI, Tableau etc
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to partner with cross f-functional HR and Data teams.
• Ability to manage shifting priorities in a fast paced, dynamic environment-paced, dynamic environment.
• Experience with data cataloging or metadata management tools (e.g., Alation, Collibra) is a plus.

Other Requirements
• Familiarity with People Data, HR Data Governance frameworks or data stewardship practices preferred.
• No certifications required; data or analytics related-related certifications are a plus.
