Data Analyst job description

Diversity Lab is seeking a Data Analyst to help us derive useful, practical, and actionable insights from our talent data through business intelligence reporting and data visualization, including the creation of user-friendly, interactive Tableau dashboards.

This role is not primarily an ETL or data engineering position; it is focused on dashboard development, analytics, and insight delivery. If you have experience in analytics and are passionate about extracting meaningful information from data, we would love to discuss this opportunity with you.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship now or in the future. Diversity Lab is an equal opportunity employer.

The Skills Needed to Be Effective in This Role

We don’t expect one human to embody all these skills. But if you have some of these key skills and are willing to learn, we encourage you to apply. This individual will work closely with the Senior Director of Analytics, the Data Analytics Engineer, and other members of the team to perform end-to-end analyses with an emphasis on business intelligence reporting and visualization, from gathering necessary information, to cleaning and organizing data, to creating, summarizing, and interpreting output, and presenting insights through Tableau dashboards as needed for Diversity Lab’s data-driven programs and initiatives.

This role will be primarily technical in nature, requiring the use of tools such as Tableau (Desktop and Cloud), R, and BigQuery as appropriate for each project.

The position requires interaction with our team, external experts, and other stakeholders, so strong interpersonal and communication skills – including a positive, problem-solving approach and attitude – are incredibly important.

Responsibilities:

Develop new dashboards and enhance existing dashboards using Tableau Desktop and Tableau Cloud, with a focus on clarity, usability, and stakeholder-ready storytelling

Partner with internal stakeholders to understand reporting needs and translate questions into interactive dashboard requirements (metrics, filters, drill-downs, and definitions)

Perform analysis to assess the quality and meaning of various talent data, including but not limited to survey responses and employment data

Use analytical tools to identify patterns and trends, producing reports and other outputs as needed

Generate code (using R or other similar tools) to support recurring analyses and dashboard-ready outputs, automating processes where possible

Document dashboard metrics and definitions to ensure consistency and transparency across stakeholders.

Follow team protocols and best practices to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and security of Diversity Lab and its clients’ data

Collaborate with other data analysts

A knowledge of statistical methodologies like regression analysis and other predictive modeling is a benefit

Use technical skills and capabilities to support additional Diversity Lab needs, as applicable

Perform other job-related duties and special projects at the specialist level as required

Data Analyst job requirements

Project management skills, including excellent attention to detail and timeline management

Ability to be flexible and adapt to new and rapidly changing situations and environments; comfortable with constant change and iterative processes
